If the addict is willing to attend drug
rehabilitation but
does not seem serious, can the drug treatment program work?
Yes, but a longer, comprehensive drug rehabilitation program
is recommended. It is very uncommon for a drug abuser to
want to go through a drug rehabilitation program. As miserable
and unmanageable as their life has become, drug rehab is
out of their comfort zone. So they will put rehabilitation
off as long as possible. For many addicts’ tomorrow
may never come. If the family doesn't get tough and intervene,
the chemically dependent individual will eventually wind
up in prison or die as a result of the alcohol or drug addiction.
Once in the drug rehabilitation center:
Many drug abusers go into drug treatment rebelliously and
ambivalent or just not interested in the drug treatment program.
The addict’s motivation toward drug rehab should be examined
early in the treatment program to identify the underlying problem.
Drug rehab counseling can help these individuals get motivated
and realize they can be much happier sober and encourage them
to want to participate in their treatment program. Drug rehab
counselors can help the individuals to understand and recognize
that a serious drug abuse problem does exist, and realize the
damaging effects that drug addiction has had on every aspect
of their life. This can help break through the layers of his
or her denial of the problem, and thus show motivation toward
recovery, and help patients see the benefits of a drug-free
lifestyle.
